I confirmed that the pressure plate bolts were properly torqued, so I’m charging boldly ahead! I reinstalled the alternator and starter, bought a new battery and installed it, hooked up the battery cables, reinstalled the engine computer and connected the main C100 wiring harness to the firewall. I put in the key, turned it, and of course nothing happened. Nothing ever happens the first time. I still had to wire the starter and alternator, but after that I powered up the interior components, and everything was working perfectly. I stuck my mp3 adapter into the stereo and plugged in my Gigabeat, and I had music!
With the electrical problems sorted out, I set to work on everything else. I got the serpentine accessory belt and engine torque strut installed. I connected the transmission linkage and fuel lines, reinstalled the radiator, attached the upper and lower radiator hoses, reinstalled the throttle body coolant pipe and cut fresh hose for it, and then clamped, bolted and screwed everything down. I reconnected all half dozen or so vacuum lines, some of which were improperly routed, and then flushed two quarts of oil through the engine to get rid of any remaining gunk. The throttle/cruise cable attachment plate had to be modified so that the flange would lock in place properly, so I cut a hole in the steel with a Dremel and then repainted it.
I got five gallons of fuel, five quarts of oil, and four gallons of coolant for it. Tomorrow I’m filling the radiator and crankcase, then cranking it over to see what happens.
